First-of-Its-Kind Sand Sifter to Clean Beach Litter

Brand New Non-Mechanized Beach Litter Device That's Safe for Critical Habitats

When we came up with the idea to start cleaning up the litter and plastic pollution on beaches in Escambia County, Florida, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach, Alabama, we knew we had to do it in a way that protected the precious Gulf Shores habitats.

That meant we had to get creative and find a company willing to work with us to fabricate a unique sand sifter.

Perdido Key, Florida, and Pensacola Beach are home to many threatened and endangered plants and animals. Several types of sea turtles rely on our beaches for nesting grounds.

That's why our beach cleaning tool couldn't be a pull-behind beach rake. The rake tines would be dangerous to any unidentified sea turtle nests.

We found a partner willing to take on our clean beaches and safe habitats mission. Otwell's Extreme Motorsports was ready to work with us to fabricate a sand-sifting tool to clean the litter off the beach while protecting critical habitats.

We chose to pull the sand sifter with ATVs instead of tractors. We made this choice to lessen our impact on the environment.

After months of planning, testing, reconfiguring, and modifying our design, we now have a first-of-its-kind, ATV-pulled, fuel-free sand sifter for beach litter collection.

We're very proud of the innovative design and the minimal impact it will have on critical habitats. We are ecstatic that this one-of-a-kind sand sifter will make enormous strides in keeping our Panhandle beaches clean and litter-free.

Check out the video of our sand sifter in action!
